Lisa's Lemon Meringue

Lisa came to me and said she wanted a casual/dressy look for her dress. I see this dress and I can't decide if it makes me want a country picnic, or a classy sea-side soiree.    








Why not both?

In my mind's eye I see a beautiful sunny day with the tiniest of breezes whispering by occasionally.  You get to the sand and there is an adorable hand-painted sign showing you the way to the ceremony.  As you draw closer you notice the rows of white chairs placed on either side of the isle and a tin bucket filled with green, rice paper Parasols  just off to the side.  There is a small tag hanging from each one asking you to take one for your comfort during the ceremony. With your charming little parasol you head down the isle to find your seats. Each isle end is decorated with large colorful Pinwheels with ribbons. Rotating slowly.

Before long all the seats are filled and the groom has taken his place in front. There is an eager anticipation that hums in the crowd then slowly settles down. With everyone quiet, the sound of the ocean fills your ears and the bride begins her walk with a small bouquet of Daffodils. Ahead of her are two little girls in white eyelet sundresses holding hands and  carrying Pinwheels of their own.

 

As soon as the ceremony is over the bride and groom offer refreshments and a picnic style lunch just off to the side. There is an adorable little Lemonade stand complete with pennants and little girls, and a classic truck offering a tailgate buffet. The wooden picnic tables are set with checkered tablecloths, eyelet place cards and pots of blooming Daffodils.

That's my daydream anyway. I can't wait to see pictures of the real deal. I'll post them for everyone to see just as soon as I have them.
        

Pint Sized Super Heros

A brightly clad figure poses heroically for a moment on a tree stump before diving off to the next grand adventure.  His satin cape floating and rippling in the air behind him with his courageous symbol shining boldly for all to see, leaving hope in it's wake.  Before too long he will spy his arch enemy and you'll be going out to save the family dog from him.  Again.

 Why not a super-villain cape for the dog? After all, he won't be offended or upset that he always has to be "the bad guy".

When I was asked to make super hero capes for some little boys my head started to spin with ideas. I felt like a little kid again, tying bedsheets and blankets on and jumping around. This was going to be so cool.

For this project I wanted to get inside the head of a real expert of the field. So like any normal person would do I popped The Incredibles  in the DVD player and got started.

"A new suit? You push too hard, darling!"

"But I accept!"

"It will be bold!"

"Dramatic!"

"Heroic!"



Out came the notebook and the sketches started to flow. Then a snag......

"Do you remember Thunderhead? Tall, storm powers? Nice man, good with kids.... November 15th of '58! All was well, another day saved, when... his cape snagged on a missile fin!... Stratogale! April 23rd, '57! Cape caught in a jet turbine!.... Metaman, express elevator! Dynaguy, snagged on takeoff! Splashdown, sucked into a vortex!... No capes!"

This was followed by a lot of pacing and head scratching. Aha! I've got it!  The neck closures will have magnetic snaps that will release at a moments notice, and will be simple enough for the youngest in your family to operate.

Yes! another day saved!

A secret identity? I don't know a single superhero who doesn't have one. Your identity is your most valuable possession and it must be protected. After all, who wants the pressure of being super all the time?
